Praise for FORESIGHT:

All hail Greek mythology!

I gotta say first off that I’m one of those people that never quite understood mythology. All I knew was that there was a mountain and Zeus and some other gods. The rest of it, I just kinda went, “whatever…”

But what did Miss Anti-Mythology find herself doing while reading “Foresight?” That’s right, I was looking stuff up, soaking up info with gusto. I couldn’t help myself!

Grace was relatable – she didn’t whine and freak out, but she wasn’t all cool and smooth. She was a normal teenage girl who’d been hit by a mega amount of info and was coping the best way she could. Overwhelmed at some points, excited in others, curious, angry, etc, etc.

And her aunt, Phoenix, is completely kick-ass – brave and stubborn. I think she was my favorite character and I can’t wait for the second book when I find about more about the connection between her and Lynx. I’m already imagining the possibilities and I think I may have a crush on Lynx.

I really enjoyed the idea of gods taking human form and helping out. My personal favorite – Hermes. If this is really what Hermes is like, we are so hanging out. And I’m kicking Apollo’s pompous butt.

But my favorite thing about this book? I learned stuff. That sounds so nerdy, but I loved that I was being introduced to all these gods and stories I’d never really paid attention to before. Ms. Ficklin made mythology seem so interesting and you know what? It really is!

FORESIGHT,

Book I in the Gods of Fate Trilogy, by Sherry Ficklin is a refreshing new edition to the YA fantasy genre. Sherry handles the coming-of-age story of Grace Archer with humour, intelligence and a beautifully imagined mythology. Ms. Ficklin’s voice is refreshing in its lack of brooding angst so often de rigueur in YA literature and instead captures the cockiness and frailty of Grace Archer as she steps over the threshold of childhood into adulthood.

I applaud Ms. Ficklin for creating a modern Hero’s Quest and casting a female in the lead role, one who relies on her own strength and intelligence instead of waiting for someone to rescue her. Feisty Grace battles evil, goes toe-to-toe with arrogant ancient gods, and struggles to come to terms with her growing magical powers, all the while falling in love with a most delicious faerie imagined.

Foresight’s appeal crosses all age groups and has enough nail-biting drama and heartbreak to have you turning the pages and wanting more. Foresight definitely earns a rating of 5 out of 5 and I am very much looking forward to Book 2 and the return to Grace Archer’s epic story.

"Even at Chapter one of FORESIGHT, the author Sherry D Ficklin captured this reader's attention to the point of letting the wonderful latte that I was sipping go quite cold as I continued to read into the following chapters. It is refreshing to find an author who can write not only to obtain the attention of a younger audience, but as a full-fledged grown adult I found the writing more than just entertaining. Grace Archer's character is not another whining, filled-with-self-pity young mind that cannot see beyond her Facebook-paged world, but that of a young girl who should inspire so many others in the real world to see beyond their text messages and credit card spending. The gratitude and bond she shares with her Aunt Phoenix is more than that of obligation. It is one that is quite refreshing. This first of the God's of Fate Trilogy is a wonderfully refreshing read that is well-written and Interesting from beginning to end. I personally can't wait for the second release of the series!" ~ reviewed by Robin R. Clark (08/2010) FIVE STAR

Book Review
I love mythology of all different origins and after reading the description of this book I was eager to give it a go. I haven’t read many modern fictional stories containing gods and goddesses (the only one that comes to mind is the middle grade Percy Jackson series) and was delighted that the author was using this subject as a basis for a young adult series. The story starts very quickly and throws the reader into the midst of a plot filled with action. I love that any background information we need to know is given to us as it’s given to the main character, so we are learning what’s going on right along with her.

There are a lot of different characters in this book, so some of them are only able to make brief appearances; I hope to see many of them expanded on in the future books in the series. The love interest, Chris, is one character that remains a bit mysterious and I want to know more about him and where he comes from, what his story is. The main character, Grace, is a determined young hero and her decision making is what drives the story along. Her decisions have dire consequences to herself and those around her and one of those decisions is left open for the next in the series which is intriguing.

Grace learns who she really is, a crucial element for any coming of age novel, and even though this is a fantasy, all of the elements put together seem real. The bits and pieces we get of all of the characters are enough to assemble a real cast of characters that could eventually span a lifetime of stories. The author has chosen a great storyline to weave in countless characters, plots, problems and disasters, love, wars, and parallel worlds. It wasn’t bogged down with too much description, something that can drive me crazy in other fantasy stories. The only drawback to the book is that it was over too quickly for me. I could have eagerly read another couple hundred pages and still want more.

"Sherry Ficklin's “Foresight” gave me one of the most enjoyable reads I've had in months. Paying homage to the fairy tales of old, “Foresight” follows the protagonist and recent high school graduate, Grace Archer, on an adventure I wouldn't mind having myself. She takes in whole new worlds in ways I can connect with. Fighting evil and falling in love with a sense of growing maturity, Grace shows a sense of human fallibility, but never weakness. Anyone looking for a new heroine to travel with will find a great companion within the pages of “Foresight.”

"FORESIGHT is eloquently written with a well organized manner, which is sure to attract readers of any age or genre preference into stepping into the shoes of Grace Archer. If you are looking for a good read for your teenager or for yourself, be assured that containing the mastery skills of such notable writers as Meyer and Rowling, Sherry Ficklin tells a clean story while upholding the interest factor and not destroying the dignity of the young adult genre. Mrs. Ficklin writes with pure soul and her readers can tell that she, herself, stepped into the land of Fae and conversed with the fairies, gods and goddesses! More, more, more Mrs. Ficklin. My bookshelf is screaming Grace Archer."
